Mercury is a toxic metal that is extracted by cinnabar i.e naturally occurring mercuric sulphide. At standard temperature and pressure it exists as a liquid. The density of mercury is 13.534g/cm3 and melts at -38℃. It has an atomic weight of 201 which is pretty high than other metals such as sodium, iron, copper etc.. and even common salt, sugar, epsom etc..
Therefore because of these reasons mercury is more densier than many of solids.
