I see a lot of answers suggesting the use of Sodium and Potassium for the task. Neither can be used.

The ideal metals to use for the task of recovering copper from an aqueous solution of copper sulphate are metals that are stronger reducing agents than copper but not reactive enough to react with the water that the solution consists of.

Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and even Magnesium are alkali metals and alkali earth metals respectively that react with water to form hydroxides that will in-turn react with the copper sulphate to form Copper Hydroxide, they will not reduce the copper from its salt.

The metals that can be used are Zinc, Aluminium, Iron due to their being relatively inexpensive and being unreactive on exposure to water.
