The molecular formula of the compound whose percentage composition is :C=26.67%, H=2.22%, O=71.10%. If the vapour density of the compound is 45 calculate its molecular formula. [C=12, H=1, O=16]​

Empirical mass of the component = Atomic mass of C + Atomic mass of H + 2×Atomic mass of O

= 12+1+2×16 = 45

molecular mass = 2× vapour density = 2×45 = 90

n = 90/45=2

∴ Molecular formula of the compound is C₂H₂O₄
