1. Life is uncertain. Today, you are happy with your family and friends. Tomorrow, you might be dying in a hospital exhaling your last breath. Life is full of surprises. Do not expect everything to go smoothly.
2. The world is unfair. You might be better than the next candidate, but you won’t get admitted. The world is unfair and the best you can do is to accept it.
3. Only your parents care about you. People are nice to you because you are self-confident, have an interesting personality or benefit them in some way. When you hit rock bottom, all of that will be gone and everyone, except maybe your family and very special few, will abandon you.
4. Your life only matters when you have money. When some drug-addict celebrity dies, all the world mourns their loss but nobody cares about thousands of children who starve to death.
5. Success brings envy with it. If you are successful, people will envy you. When they are too lazy to achieve something themselves, they will point fingers at you and try to downgrade anything you do.
6. Most people lie. When I was a kid, I easily believed everyone who told me anything. With age, I realized that most people will lie to get their way. Do not trust everyone.
7. Whatever you do, people will always talk.When I was participating in International Science Olympiads, people said I had no chance. When I applied to Cambridge, people said I was arrogant. When I was doing fundraising for my studies, people said I was immoral. You will never be able to please everyone.
8. Happiness = Selfishness. If you are unable to say “no”, people will constantly exploit and disappoint you. Kindness is kindness but there should be a line if you want to be happy.
9. The universe doesn’t care about you. Out of 100s of billions of galaxies, out of 100s of billions of stars, out of 9 planets, there you are having problems. The world is not going to care about your problems. You are just a grain of sand in the vastness of the universe.
