»» Let a and d respectively be the first term and the common difference of an A.P.

According to the given conditions,

a + (m-n)d = n ------(1)

a + (n-1)d = m ------(2)

On solving eqn (1) & (2) , we get,

» d = -1 ; a = m+n-1

Therefore,

»» rth term = a+(r-1)d

.°. » rth term = (m+n-1) - (r-1)

.°. » rth term = m+n-r ,,
