EXPLANATION.

Let the denominator of a fraction be = x

Let the numerator of a fraction be = x - 4

To find the fraction.

According to the question,

if the numerator is decreased by the 2

and the denominator is increased by 1

fraction become = 1/8

=> x - 4 - 2 / x + 1 = 1/8

=> x - 6 / x + 1 = 1/8

=> 8 ( x - 6 ) = 1 ( x + 1 )

=> 8x - 48 = x + 1

=> 7x = 49

=> x = 7

Therefore,

original fraction = x - 4 / x = 7 - 4 / 7 = 3/7

the fraction = 3/7

Answer:

3/7

Step-by-step explanation:

Numerator = x

Denominator = 4 + x

(x-2) / (x+4+1) = 1/8

(x-2) / (x+5) = 1/8

(: cross multiply :) 8 (x-2) = (x+5)

8x - 16 = x + 5

7x = 21

x = 3.

Numerator = 3

Denominator = 3 + 4

                       = 7
