Crime has become almost like an indispensable element of the daily newspaper. Everyday, we are exposed to the news of at least one murder and one rape- if only more. The situation is pathetic. It becomes even more so when we see the ones who are involved in such crimes and the reasons for committing these. Daughter kills parents for marrying lover; Uncle rapes niece; and the stories go on. It has become so common that at some level, we have all learnt to normalize it. We are no more shocked by it, rather, we accept it as a part of city life. Here is where the problem begins. Once we stop seeing this increase in crime rate as an alarm for action, they are only bound to increase. We need more people who will react against these than the ones who say, 'These things keep happening'.
