The high and extensive mountain system of the Himalayas protects the northern plains from the cold wind of Siberia. Thus, the northern plains do not freeze.

Answer:

The northern plains of India do not freeze in winters. This is due to the the presence of Himalayas as a climatic barrier which obstruct the cold and dry Siberian winds from entering into India and making India a dry desert region.
