I completely agree that 'The Canterville Ghost' celebrates and promotes love and sympathy. Despite being a ghost-story, it leaves the reader with a positive feeling at the end after the ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville is liberated.
Though he had committed a heinous crime and suffered for his act, the other side of the ghost shows his sorrow and loneliness when he confides in Virginia. Virgina's sympathy for the ghost, her sincerity towards helping the ghost to get rid of his pitiable state enable the reader to understand that love and sympathy can curb evil giving way for peace, satisfaction and glory. It was out of her love and sympathy that she risks her life and goes to the other dimension with the ghost to beg for mercy from the Angel of Death. She returns from there as a better person as she understands that life and death are important the love is above them.
