Jerome K Jerome is the author of the novel. It is a comic travelogue in which the author has blended humour with narration of the voyage of the three friends on the Thames. As a travelogue, it us an interesting commentary on the places that lie on the banks of the river between Kingston and Oxford. The novel is a realistic narration of the experiences of the friends during this leisure trip for a fortnight. The narrator presents their preparation for the journey, reaching the boat after a short journey by train from Waterloo to Kingston and their experiences during the day and the night. Jim discusses the difficulties of towing the boat for long hours, the problems caused by the tow- lines and the hardship they face covering the boat with the canvas for spending the rainy night. The novel contains informative descriptions of villages and towns on both sides of the river.
