Answer:

19/25

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

A numerator of a fraction is 6 less than it's denominator. If the numerator is decreased by 4 and denominator is decreased by 1 the fraction becomes 5/8.

To find :-

Required fraction

Solution :-

Let the denominator be x

A numerator of a fraction is 6 less than it's denominator.

Numerator = x - 6

If the numerator is decreased by 4 and denominator is decreased by 1 the fraction becomes 5/8.

According to the given condition

→ x - 6 - 4/x - 1 = 5/8

→ x - 10/x - 1 = 5/8

→ 8(x - 10) = 5(x - 1)

→ 8x - 80 = 5x - 5

→ 8x - 5x = 80 - 5

→ 3x = 75

→ x = 75/3

→ x = 25

Hence,

Required fraction = Numerator/denominator

x - 6/x = 25 - 6/25 = 19/25.
