Answer: Human adult Hb (Hb A) is a tetramer protein composed of two a (141 residues) and two β (146 residues) subunits (α2β2), each of which contains a single heme [1–3]. The incorporated O2 molecule is bound to Fe(II) ion of heme. Accordingly, a single Hb molecule can bind four O2 molecules. Human hemoglobin A, present in adults, consists of four subunits: two α subunits and two β subunits. The α and β subunits are homologous and have similar three-dimensional structures
