The number of four legged pets in a locality were 2 more three times the number of two legged pets .if the total number of legs of the pets in the locality is 358 ,then find the no. of four legged pets

Let the no. of 2 legged pet in the locality be x , then the no. of 4 legged pets in the locality would be 3x + 2

Total no. of pets = 358
Therefore  x + 3x + 2 = 358
                  x + 3x = 358 - 2
                  4x = 356
                  x = 356 ÷ 4
                  x = 89

no. of 2 legged pet in the locality = 89

no. of 4 legged pets in the locality = 3x + 2
                                                      = 3 × 89 + 2
                                                      = 267 + 2
                                                      = 269
