→ Mean of data = (20 + 25 + 19 + 16 + 24 + 26 + 17)/7 = 147/7 = 21

then,

→ sum of difference between mean and given terms = (21 - 20)² + (21 - 25)² + (21 - 19)² + (21 - 16)² + (21 - 24)² + (21 - 26)² + (21 - 17)² = 1 + 16 + 4 + 25 + 9 + 25 + 16 = 96 .

therefore,

→ variance = sum of difference between mean and given terms / N - 1

→ variance = 96/(7 - 1)

→ variance = 96/6

→ variance = 16
