Step-by-step explanation:

let the fraction be (x-4)/x

Accordingto the question

(x-4+1)/x+1 = 5/7

=> (x-3)/ x+1 = 5/7

=> 7(x-3) = 5( x+1) ( By cross multiplication)

=> 7x - 21 = 5x +5

=> 7x - 5x = 5+ 21

=> 2x= 26

=> x= 26/2 = 13

original fraction = (13-4)/ 13 = 9/13
