The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than its denominator. If 2 is added to the numerator,
the fraction becomes 5/7 . Find the fraction.

Then numerator is x-4.

If 2 is added to numerator , then

x-4+2 = x-2

The fraction thus becomes 5/7.

According to the question ,

x-2/x = 5/7

On cross multiplying ,

7 X (x-2) = 5 X (x)

7x - 14 = 5x

7x - 5x = 14

2x = 14

x = 14/2 = 7

So the denominator = x = 7

And the numerator = x-4 = 7 - 4 = 3

Therefore the required fraction is 7/3.
