N be the numerator and D be denominator
P / q form = N / D
N = D - 4
= D - 4 / D
If 1 is added then
[(D - 4) + 1] / (D + 1) = 1 / 2
(D - 3) / (D + 1) = 1 / 2
Cross multiply
2 (D - 3) = D + 1
2D - 6 = D + 1
2D - D = 1 + 6
D = 7
Then N = (7 - 4) = 3
Therefore, the fraction is 3 / 7
P / q form = N / D
N = D - 4
= D - 4 / D
If 1 is added then
[(D - 4) + 1] / (D + 1) = 1 / 2
(D - 3) / (D + 1) = 1 / 2
Cross multiply
2 (D - 3) = D + 1
2D - 6 = D + 1
2D - D = 1 + 6
D = 7
Then N = (7 - 4) = 3
Therefore, the fraction is 3 / 7
