let the denomiator of the rational number be x.then the numerator of the rational number is (x-2). it is said that when 1 is subtracted from numerator and denominator, it becomes 1/2=> (x-3)/(x-1) =1/2=> 2x-6=x-1 => 2x-x= -1+6=5 => x=5 So the rational number is 5-2/5 =3/5 . Hope it helps you....
