Question:-
The numerator of a rational number is less than its denominator by 7. If new number becomes 3/2 when the numerator is tripled and the denominator is increased by 16 find the original number
Method Used:-
First we should cross multiply the number with the numerator and denominator to get the numerator and denominator
Solution:-
Let the numerator and denominator be x and x
=> 3[x-7]/x+16=3/2
=> 3x-21/x+16=3/2
=> 2[3x-21] =3[x+16]
=> 6x-42=3x+48
=> 6x-3x=48+42
=> 3x=90
=>x=90/3
=>x=30
Conclusion:-
The numerator and denominator are
69 and 48
