The numerator of a rational number is less than its denominater by 3. If the numerator becomes three times and the denominator is increased by 20, the new number becomes 1/8, find the orignal number.

Let the numerator be n and the denominator be d.
d=n+3
According to question,
3n/n+3+20=1/8
3n/n+23=1/8
8(3n) = n+23
24n=n+23
24n-n=23
n=23/23
=1
Numerator=1
Denominator=1+3=4
Fraction=1/4
