The Old Vicksburg Bridge carries the Kansas City rail line across the Mississippi River in Vicksburg. The bridge appears perpendicular to both banks of the river. What is the measure of each of the corresponding angles formed by the bridge and the two parallel banks?

Solution:

Properties of angles formed by transversal line  with two parallel lines :

• Corresponding angles are congruent.  

• Alternate angles are congruent.  ( Interiors & Exterior  both )  

• Interior angles are supplementary. ( adds up to 180°)

Given angles are Interior angles  and adds upto 90° + 90° =  180°

Hence Banks of the river are parallel,

Angle forming Linear pair = 180° - 90° = 90°

Angle vertically opposite = 90°

Hence all the angles formed are 90°

measure of each of the corresponding angles formed by the bridge and the two parallel banks  = 90°
