q1 Acceleration is a derived quantity and a vector quantity as well because it has a direction as well as magnitude.

q2 Negative acceleration occurs when the objects velocity decreases and positive acceleration occurs when the object is in uniform motion or increaseing speed.Eg if an object retards from 90km/hr to 50km/hr it is negative acceleration and if an object accelerates from 20km/hr to 60km/hr. it is positive acceleration.
