Phloem fibres are the dead cells of food conducting tissue.

Food conducting tissue in plants is phloem. It transports minerals, nutrients and carbohydrates to the different parts of plant.

It is made up of both living and dead cells. The living cells are sieve cells, companion cells and parenchyma cells. The dead cells are phloem fibres.

These cells form tissue which provide strength to the stem.
