The outer three layers of anther wall broadly perform the function of (D) A and C.

Anther: It is a bilobed and dithecous structure containing microsporangia which further develop into pollen grains.

Microsporangium is a circular structure present at the corners of the anther. It is covered by four layers.

Layers of Microsporangium:

  • Epidermis: It is the outermost layer. Its function is to help in the protection of anther.
  • Endothecium: It is the second layer of the wall. It mainly creates stress which ultimately results in dehiscence of anther.
  • Middle layers: It is the third layer which is made up of 2-4 cells.
  • Tapetum: It is the innermost layer and is responsible for providing nourishment to the anther.
