During photosynthesis plants take in carbon dioxide from atmosphere and water from soil and then form glucose molecules as food and oxygen molecules as waste materials which is used by us.

it was proved by Cornelius van niel he inferred that oxygen is evolved by the green parts of leaves comes from water not from carbon dioxide

he proved it by substituting water by H₂S in this expiriment  sulphur is released

it is an mile stone in the history of photosynthesis
