  1. For a society to steadily develop it needs a coastline, safe harbors with calm waters that lie on trade routes, and arable land.
  2. The geographical pattern of a region dominantly decides the pace of development in that particular region. For example: In a desert area, the pace of development will be very slow due to lack of resources.
  3. Climate is another factor which controls the development of a society. For example, A country which is continuously affected by the earthquake, tsunami or etc, their main concentration will be on recovering the region from disaster rather than in development.
  4. Culture and mindset are other factors which hold the pace of development in a region. This kind of population will require a lot of time for adaptation to the new type of developments that takes place in their region which will affect the development pace indirectly.
