A stamen is the unit of an androecium. The plural of stamen is either stamina or just stamens. An androeciumis usually made up of multiple stamina; each is composed of two parts, the filament and the anther. An anther is usually a cluster of four pollen sacs called microsporangia (singular is microsporangium).

androecium is composed of stamens. A sterile stamen is called staminode. When stamens are attached to petals they are epipetalous or epiphyllous when attached to perianth . The united stamens into one branch is called monoadelphous or two bundles called diadelphous or more than two bundles called polyadephous.
