Given: The path of a train A is given by the equation 3x + 4y – 12 = 0 and the path of another train B is given by the equation 6x + 8y – 48 = 0.

Solution :

We have the following pair of linear equations :

3x + 4y – 12 = 0    ………..(1)

6x + 8y – 48 = 0    ………..(2)

To represent given situation graphically, we find at least two solutions for each equation.

For eq 1 :

3x + 4y – 12 = 0

On putting y = 0

3x + 4(0) = 12

3x = 12

x = 12/3

x = 4

Hence the coordinate is (4, 0)

On putting x = 0

3(0) + 4y = 12

4y = 12

y = 12/4

y = 3

Hence the coordinate is (0, 3)

3x + 4y – 12 = 0,  passes through (4, 0) and (0,3)

For eq 2 :

6x + 8y – 48 = 0

On putting x = 0

6(0) + 8y = 48

8y = 48

y = 48/8

y = 6

Hence the coordinate is (0, 6)

6x + 8y – 48 = 0

On putting y = 0

6x + 8(0) = 48

6x = 48

x = 48/6

x = 8

Hence the coordinate is (8, 0)

6x + 8y – 48 = 0, passes through (0, 6) and (8,0)

Hope this answer will help you…
