The Treaty of Versailles was a harsh and humiliating peace treaty:
* Germany lost its Overseas colonies and one tenth of its population, it lost 13% of its territory, 75% of its iron and 76% of its coal to France, Denmark, Poland and Lithuania.
* Germany was forced to pay a compensation of 6 billion pounds as it was held responsible for the war and damages as per The War Guilt.
* the allied powers demilitarised ( lost the power to hold army) Germany and the resource rich Rhineland occupied by the allies till 1920.
