Let x & y m be the original length & breadth of rectangle

So original Area = x*y  m^2

New length = 120/100*x = 6/5 x

New breadth = 120/100*y = 6/5 y

Therefore, New Area = 6/5 x * 6/5 y = 36/25 xy

Difference in New & Original Area = 36/25 xy - xy = 11/25 xy

% Increase in area = Difference in area/original Area * 100

                                  = 11/25 xy/25 * 1/xy * 100 = 44%
