Area of rectangle =length * breadth

let the side be x and y respectively

so area of rectangle = xy

if side is increased by 20 % then new sides will be

l'= x +20% of x

l'= 6x/5

b'= y + 20% of y

b'= 6y/5

new area = l'* b'

new area = 6x/5 * 6y/5

new area = 36/25*xy

percentage increase = 36/25 * xy - xy/xy * 100

=11/25*xy / xy * 100

= 44%

therefore

percentage increase = 44 %

hole it helps you !!!
