Explanation:

Let the father's age be x ant the son's age be y

By the given condition the present age of father is four times the age of his son

So,x=4y

x=4y..................(1)

by the other condition ,after 10 years age of father will became three time the age of his son

After 10 years let the father's age be x+10

After 10 years let the son's age be y+10

By condition: x+10=3(y+10)

x+10=3y+30

x-3y=30-10

x-3y=20................(2)

Substitute the value of x from (1) in (2)

Now,4y-3y=20

y=20{Put in eqn (1)}

x=4×20

x=80

The present age of father is 80 years and present age of his son is 20 years

Correct Question:-

The present age of a father is four times the age of his son. After 10 years, the age of will be thrice the age of his son. Find their present ages.

Solution:-

Let the present age of son be x.

Then the present age of his father wil be 4x.

After 10 years, the father's age will be thrice the age of his son. Therefore,

→ 4x+10 = 3(x+10)

→ 4x+10=3x+30

→ 4x-3x=30-10

→ x=20

Present age of the son → x = 20

Present age of father → 4x = 4(20) = 80
