Each cell in humans contain a 23 pairs of chromosomes. i.e. 46 in total 22 of these sets are same both in males and females, they are called autosomes.

The 23 rd are the sex chromosomes which differ in male and female.

In male it is a combination of X and Y "XY"and for female its a pair of X "XX"
