Step-by-step explanation:

GIVEN:

The perimeter of a rectangle is 34 and it's area is 60 sq.cm.

TO FIND :

Find the length and breadth of the rectangle.

SOLUTION :

  • Let the length be "I" and breadth

  • be" e "b"

+ According to the given condition

Perimeter of rectangle = 34 cm

  • 2(1 + b) = 34

  • →l + b = 34/2

  • →l + b = 17 ----(i)

  • Area of rectangle = 60cm²

→1 × b = 60

Putting the value of " I " in eq" (i)

→l+b=17

→60/b + b = 17

-> 60+ b²/b = 17

→ 60 + b² = 17b

→ b² - 17b + 60 = 0

➡Solve it by splitting middle term

→ b² - 12b - 5b + 60 = 0

→ b(b - 12) - 5(b - 12) = 0

(b-12)(b - 5) = 0

Either

→ (b - 12) = 0 ->

→ b = 12cm

Or

→ (b-5) = 0 ->

⇒ b = 5 cm

Putting both the value of " b

in eq" (ii)

In First case

b = 12cm

➡1 = 60/b

→1 = 60/b

→1 = 60/12

→1 = 5 cm

In second case

b= 5cm

→1 = 60/b

→1 = 60/5

→1 = 12

Therefore

Required length = 12 cm or 5 cm Required breadth = 5 cm or 12 cm
