perimeter of parallelogram =2(l+b)
32 = 2(9.5+b)
16 = 9.5+b
16-9.5 = b
6.5 = b
hence b =6.5cm

measure of shorter side is 6.5cm.

The measure of shorter side of parallelogram is 6.5 cm.

Given:

  • The perimeter of parallelogram is 32cm
  • The longer side measures 9.5 cm.

To find:

  • What is the measure of shorter side ?

Solution:

Formula to be used:

According to property of ||gm, it have equal and parallel opposite sides.

  • Perimeter of parallelogram:2(longer side+shorter side)

Step 1:

Let the shorter side of || gm is x.

Longer side = 9.5 cm

So,

32 = 2(9.5 + x) \\

Step 2:

Solve the equation for x.

9.5 + x =  \frac{32}{2}  \\

or

x = 16 - 9.5 \\

or

\bf x = 6.5 \\

Thus,

Shorter side of ||gm is 6.5 cm.
