Perimeter of rectangle =40 cm

(given)condition :- length = 2× breadth +2

⇒l=2b+2

perimeter p=2(l+b)=40

⇒2(2b+2+b)=40

⇒2(3b+2)=40

⇒6b=40−4=36

∴b=6cm

l=2×6+2=12+2=14cm

∴ length =14 cm, breadth =6 cm

Given :-

Perimeter of the rectangle = 40 cm

The length of the rectangle is more than  double its breadth by 2.

To Find :-

The length of the rectangle.

The breadth of the rectangle.

Analysis :-

Consider the breadth as a variable. Then the length would be double it's breadth by 2.

Substitute the given values in the formula of perimeter of rectangle.

After getting the value of breadth, substitute it in the length as well.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • l = Length
  • p = Perimeter
  • b = Breadth

Let the breadth be 'x'. Then the length would be '2x + 2'.

By the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Perimeter \ of \ rectangle=2(Length + Breadth)}}

Given that,

Length (l) = 2x + 2 cm

Breadth (b) = x cm

Perimeter (p) = 40 cm

Substituting their values,

40 = 2[(2x + 2) + x]

40 = 2(3x+2)

By transposing,

3x + 2 = 20

3x = 20 - 2

3x = 18

Finding the value of x,

x = 18/3

x = 6

Hence, the value of x is 6.

Therefore,

Breadth (b) = 6 cm

Length (l) = 2b + 2

= (2 × 6) + 2

= 12 + 2 = 14 cm

Therefore, the length and the breadth of the rectangle is 14 cm and 6 cm respectively.
