we have to find the pH of 10¯³ M mono acidic base if it is 1 % ionised.
solution : molarity of mono acidic base , C = 0.001 M
degree of ionisation, α = 1% = 0.01
so concentration of [OH¯] = Cα = 0.001 × 0.01 = 10¯⁵ M
we know, [H⁺][OH¯] = 10¯¹⁴
⇒[H⁺] × 10¯⁵ = 10¯¹⁴
⇒[H⁺] = 10^-9 M
now using Arrhenius formula to find pH,
pH = -log[H⁺] = -log(10^-9) = 9
Therefore the pH of 10¯³ M mono acidic base if it is 1 % ionised, will be 9
