the pharynx leads to trachea as well as to the oesophagus.the two openings lie very close to each other.yet the food we swallow does not normally go the trachea.why?

this happens because there is a flap like structure present over the trachea so when we eat food it closes and prevent any entry to trachea.
you can check it also as when you swallow something you can't breathe.
