- A first-class lever has an axis which is a fulcrum located between the weight can be termed resistance and the force.
- In the above example Class-| lever the joint between the head and the first vertebra which is the atlantooccipital joint. The weight or resistance is the head, the fulcrum is the joint, and the muscular action is the force that comes from any of the hind muscles affixing to the skull, such as the trapezius.
- In a second-class lever, the weight termed resistance is located between the axis which is the fulcrum and the force.
