The piecewise defined function f(x) is graphed below. What is the value of f(5)?

From the graph of the function f(x) , we have to find f(5).

At x = 5 , from the graph it is clear that the function has to different piece wise functions -

1) 2y = x + 1 and 2) y = -x + 4

The the function y = -x+4 has the point x = 5 in it's range whereas the function 2y = x+1 doesnot have x = 5 in it's range.

Therefore the value of f(5) = -1 , as the value of y = -x+4 is -1 at x = 5.
