Given:

The pitch of a micrometer screw = 1 mm

The least count of the micrometer screw  = 0.005 mm

To find:

The number of divisions on the head

Solution:

The least count of a micrometer screw gauge is given by

\boxed{\bold{Least\:Count\:=\:\frac{Pitch\:of\:the\:screw}{No.\:of\:divisions\:on\:the\:micrometer\:thimble} }}

Let "n" be the no. of divisions on the micrometer head

We will now substitute the given values to find the no. of divisions on the head of the micrometer screw gauge.

0.005 mm = \frac{1\:mm}{n}

cancelling mm from both the sides

⇒ 0.005 = \frac{1}{n}

⇒ n = \frac{1}{0.005}

n = 200

Thus, the number of divisions on the head is 200.
