Pitcher plant grows in the soil which is Nitrogen deficient. Photosynthesis cannot meet need of Nitrogen as it yields carbohydrates. So, they have adapted to use Insects as their nitrogen source.

as we all know that plants main food source is water and carbon dioxide so though these plants are green they won't photosynthesise and no source of food so they eat insects.....
