Answer:

The caged bird is in a state of mental pain and severe physical agony. It has lost its freedom. The harsh aspects did not take away its dignity. He knows his strength and uses it to express his rebellion by singing. Singing is a symbolic of rebellion against oppression.

The song divulges its hope and inner strength. The African- American longed for equality by singing , dancing and crying out for freedom though initially they were heard at a distant voice.

Hope it helps ...

jyotisikhadash2: The caged bird quivers as it sings in a shrill and fearful tone. The "things unknown " is a symbolic of the unknown and longing freedom , what it is and when it will come. The bird's cry for freedom is heard at a faraway place . This indicates that the wishes of the Black community could not be fulfilled immediately.
