It is quite true, the poem Keeping Quiet by Pablo Neruda is based on the theme of universal peace. The title of the poem “keeping Quiet’ conveys the message of peace and tranquility.

In the first stanza the poet puts forth his suggestion of keeping quiet. He also explains them how to keep quiet. He tells the people that this would be an exotic moment.

In the second stanza he talks about the advantages of keeping quiet. People will have time to look at their problems. Their lives have become so busy and noisy that they don’t have even time to look at their hurts and ailments.

In the third stanza the poet talks about warmongers and weapons-makers. Keeping quiet will make them realize how their selfishness is jeopardizing the world. They will also put on clean clothes and mix up with their fellow brothers and sisters. Here the poet also makes it clear that by keeping quiet he does not mean being inactive and dead.

In the fourth stanza he explains the negative effects of not keeping quiet. He tells the readers that by keeping ourselves busy, we have endangered our very life and future.

In the fifth stanza the poet advises us to be quiet like the earth that appears to be dead; but when we sow seeds in it, it becomes a full grown tree with the nurturing powers of the earth.

In the last couplet in his valediction he appeals us to be quiet.

Thus, the entire poem gives the message of peace and tranquility.
