INTRODUCTION

In this poem, the poet symbolizes a deep-rooted evil. He says that a tree can’t be killed out just by hacking and chopping it. To put it to a permanent end, it should be uprooted entirely and left out to wither in the sun. In the same way, the social evil can’t be put out just by criticising them. The society should root them up to die forever.

Answer:

Bleeding bark refers to seeping of the sap like substance from a part of the tree trunk where it has been hit with the axe. The tree is said to bleed when it is chopped, hacked or jabbed at.

Here, the poet wants to convey a message that just like the human beings feel pain and start to bleed when cut, trees also feel pain when cut or chopped.
