This is may be from the poem The Road Not Taken. The poet here refers to the condition when poet made the decision of choosing poetry as a profession. This may or may not have provided the poet with a good career financially, but the poet lived his dream. He took the path which was not being taken by many. And this made all the difference in his life.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER

The poet took the second road which was less frequented by travellers means less people visited that road. It seems that poet was quite adventurous as he chose the road which usually people do not opt for. His choice was quite different from other. Perhaps he chose that for better claims and rewards. His that one choice made all the difference as he knew that he could never come back and choose another one.
