Let remainder in each case is K.

now, ax³ + 3x² - 13 is divided by (x + 2) leaves remainder K.

so, a (-2)³ + 3(-2)² - 13 = K

or, -8a + 12 - 13 = K

or, -8a - 1 = K ........(1)

similarly, polynomial 2x³ - 5x + a is divided by (x + 2) leaves remainder K.

so, 2(-2)³ - 5(-2) + a = K

or, -16 + 10 + a = K

or, - 6 + a = K .......(2)

solve equation (1) and (2),

-8a - 1 = -6 + a

or, -8a - a = -6 + 1

or, -9a = -5

or, a = 5/9

hence, value of a = 5/9 .
