The population of a town 2 years ago was 62500. Since some persons migrate to different cities the number of people decreases every year at the rate of 4% per annum. Find its present population .

y=A(1-r)^x, where A is  the initial amount , r is the rate of change in decimal and x is the time period.

Here, the initial population =  62500

Time period x =2

Rate of decay = 4%

Then the present population=y=62500(1-0.04)^2=62500(0.96)^2=57600

Hence, the present population=  57600
