Population now ( P ) = 15435
Let population 1 year ago be = P1
Since, population of a town increases by 5% annually
P1 + ( P1 x 5 ) / 100 = P
P1 + ( P1 x 5 ) / 100 = 15435
( P1 x 105 ) / 100 = 15435
P1 = ( 15435 x 100 ) / 105
P1 = 14700
Now similarly,
Let population 2 years ago be = P2
Since, population of a town increases by 5% annually
P2 + ( P2 x 5 ) / 100 = P1
P2 + ( P2 x 5 ) / 100 = 14700
( P2 x 105 ) / 100 = 14700
P2 = ( 14700 x 100 ) / 105
P2 = 14000
Hence, the population of 2 years ago was 14000
