x + x ×8/100=54000
108x/100 =54000
x= 54000 ×100÷ 108
=500×100
=50000

Let the last year population = x

Present year population = 54000

Increased percent = g = 8 %

Present population = last year population × ( 100 + g )/100

54000 = x × ( 100 + 8 ) / 100

54000 = x × ( 108 / 100 )

( 54000 × 100 ) / 108 = x

50000 = x

Therefore,

The last yeat population = x = 50000

I hope this helps you.
